ScarecrowGrin’s Elite Eight Game Previews: 1 Wisconsin Badgers Vs 2 Arizona Wildcats
Arizona and Wisconsin will face their biggest challenges of the season as they go head to head for the first game of the Elite 8.
Arizona paced themselves in their last game against Xavier but locked down in the final minutes to get the 68-60 win. Wisconsin has a number of scorers so the Wildcats will have to play defense for 40 minutes if they don’t want to get caught playing from behind. Stanley Johnson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson will have their work cut out for them because of Wisconsin’s ability to shoot from behind the arc.
Wisconsin used a late surge against UNC after trailing for most of the game. Winning the game 79-72, the Badgers finished on a 12-4 run to advance to the Elite 8. They may have some additional help if Jackson makes a return from his late season
Arizona and Wisconsin should avoid falling behind in this match up because both teams have the ability to close out games. The keys to this game will be defense and limiting turnovers.
Players to Watch:
TJ McConnell – TJ struggled in the first half of the Xavier game, turning the ball over three times and only hitting 29% of his shots. He pulled it together in the second half by making plays late to help Arizona get the victory.
Frank Kaminsky – Kaminsky will have his work cut out for him down low but his ability to stretch the floor and knock down shots will help Wisconsin get better looks in the paint. Arizona had problems stopping Xavier’s Matt Stainbrook so look for Kaminsky to get involved early.
Arizona advances to the Final Four with a 71-65 win.
