ScarecrowGrin’s Final Four Game Previews: 1 Duke Blue Devils Vs 7 Michigan State Spartans
In the Elite Eight, Duke took on the number 2 seeded Gonzaga. Duke controlled the pace of the game and maintained a lead throughout. Gonzaga made a late push but Duke had enough fire power to hold them off, winning the contest 66-52. Blue Devil guards Matt Jones and Tyus Jones had to step up their games because freshmen phenoms, Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow, were held in check for most of the game.
Michigan State made yet another late run against Louisville in the Elite Eight to get a 76-70 overtime win. Trice lead all Spartan scorers with 17 points, hitting 2 big FTs in the final seconds. Once the game went into overtime, Michigan State took full control while extending their lead to 4 with 31 seconds to play.
Players to Watch:
Duke – Jahlil Okafor would like to forget about his last offensive performance and will have plenty of opportunities today to show why he is a projected Top 3 pick in this year’s NBA draft. Michigan State doesn’t really possess the size to stop him so look for a big game from Okafor who will most likely get enough looks to takeover this matchup.
Michigan State – The Spartans will need to have a great shooting performance to stay in this game and who better to look to then their second leading scorer, Denzel Valentine. Travis Trice has been consistent all tournament long so somebody will have to help him if they expect to play in the national championship game. After shooting 41% from 3 on the season, Valentine comes into the Final Four only hitting 35% of his shots from deep. He will have to shake off his current slump to give Duke a run for their money.
Duke gets the win, 68-64.
