Manchester United came into the 2014/15 season trying to forget the quick and ugly David Moyes era. Louis van Gaal was tasked with returning United to greatness. He came in with a no-nonsense approach that endeared him to United fans, who were looking for an Alex Ferguson clone. The 2014/15 year started off rocky for the Red Devils with only one victory in their first five. Van Gaal was eventually able to find the missing piece in their attack in the forgotten Marouane Fellaini. Marcos Rojo was also a revelation for Man U as the Argentine was a key defensive option all year and Daley Blind made a smooth transition to the EPL and quickly became a defensive leader. United was able to bounce back from their early season rut and without much help from the injured Van Persie or loanee Falcao, were able to make it into 4th on the table narrowly beating Tottenham for a Champions League spot.
Angel Di Maria provided some electrifying attacking play after his move from Real Madrid last year but it seems the Argentine is finalizing a move to PSG and the tragic loan spell for Falcao came to an uninspiring end but the player was able to make the vertical jump to Chelsea. That added with the loss of the aging Van Persie has United fans looking to a familiar mug to lead them again this year. The Red Devils still have their captain Wayne Rooney and with the emergence of Januzaj and recently added winger Memphis Depay should be exciting to watch up front. The lingering transfer of David DeGea will be upsetting for United fans but Sergio Romero is no slouch and with the additions of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin look for Fellaini and to be in more of an attacking role. Manchester United were never really in the title race last year and with the current roster it is hard to believe they will be able to make up any ground on the top three teams. Expect United to once again be fighting it out for the 4th place in the table with Tottenham.
