NCAA Football Top 25 Preview: #7 Stanford Cardinal
Stanford Cardinal (2015 record 12-2)
Pass yards per game: 210.9 (79th)
Rush yards per game: 225.1 (19th)
Points scored per game: 37.2 (19th)
Points allowed per game: 23.1 (38th)
An opening day loss to Northwestern didn’t get Stanford down. The would win 8 straight after that game behind the arm of QB Kevin Hogan and legs of RB Christian McCaffrey. Another loss to Oregon really hurt them as that made their shot at a College Football Playoff berth nothing more than a distant memory. The Cardinal would end up in the Rose Bowl however and beat Iowa 45-16.
Hogan is now in the NFL so the load on McCaffrey is that much greater. To ask for another 2,019 yard season is far to much to put on his shoulders but if they want to get a crack at the national championship, they will need a performance near it.
