Giants and Cubs – Game 2

San Francisco Giants at Chicago Cubs – 8pm – MLBN

The Giants have yet another tough road ahead of them tonight at Wrigley.  Despite a masterful performance from Cueto, the Giants dropped lost 1-0 in game 1.   Tonight, runs may also be in short supply as well.  Cubs starter, Kyle Hendricks, has a .98 WHIP and a 2.13 ERA.  Kyle has been locating his fastball more like Greg Maddux this season, and will look to continue the success in game 2.  The Giants need patient at bats.  Manager, Bruce Bochey, needs to be aggressive in the running game.  They may not get many opportunities versus Hendricks.

Jeff Samardizja returns to the team that drafted him, and will start for the Giants.  The former Notre Dame standout wide receiver’s only other playoff experience came with the Cubs back in ’08.  Now, in 2016, he looks to tame that volatile Cubs offense, that can strike at anytime, and in large doses.  Look for the Cubs home run hitters to get their cuts in tonight.

Samardizja does allow runs with an ERA upwards of 4.  I say the Cubs win this one going away. Jake Arrieta will be waiting in the wings, to try to close it out on Monday night in San Francisco.  Like I said, last night was the matchup for the Giants to have a chance in this series.  They’ll be lucky to get Madison Bumgarner to the hill twice in this series.  Bottom line : Samardizja needs to be heroic tonight for the Giants.  The good news for Giants fans is that only Jason Heyward and  Dexter Fowler have homered off Samardizja.  Only Brandon Belt has homered off Hendricks.
