2017 CFP NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
2017 CFP NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
CLEMSON TIGERS vs ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
By: Robert L. Porter Jr.
Clemson vs Alabama was a rematch of last years national championship and when people say the sequal is never as good as the original………they weren’t talking about when then these two powerhouses match up.
Clemson and an obviously rattled DeShaun Watson fell behind 14-0 on two Bo Scarbourough touchdown runs. But the tigers defense buckled down and gave its offense a chance to claw back into the game. Alabama’s offense took a hit when Scarbourough went down with an injury but the team still continued to make plays.
O.j. Howard had another huge TD catch that looked to close Clemson out but Mike Williams showed why he is widely considered the best wide out in the country. Williams high pointed balls all night when his team needed it most. Jalen Hurts didnt have a great game but for a true freshman he was game against Watson and the Tigers defense.
Alabama forced 2 turnovers and had a 14 point lead. That means a victory on any other night for Bama but DeShaun Watson, Dabo Swinney and his offense wouldn’t be denied. Watson went 36/56 420 yards 3Pass TDs and 1Rush TD on the night as Clemson scores 21 points in the 4th quarter including a 2 yard TD to Hunter Renfrow with :01 second remaining in the game to give the Clemson Tigers their first national championship since 1981 with a 35-31 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.
This game had the feel of the 2005 Rose Bowl between USC and TEXAS. DeShaun Watson played the Vince Young roll extremely well. Young downed the favorited Trojans as Watson downed the favorited Crimson Tide. This was a great ending to a great college football season. Until next season, we here at ScarecrowGrin say So Long For Now.
