2017 NBA Draft Prospect: Malik Monk

Name: Malik Monk
Position: SG
School: Kentucky
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 197

Strengths:

  • Shooting ability: Excellent shooter finishing the season at 50% from the field and 40% from 3PT range; Knows how to get to where he wants on the court so he can get his shot off; Made a ton of shots under pressure
  • Defense: Covers a lot of ground on defense; Aggressively contests shots; Flashes quickness on close outs
  • Explosiveness: Showed the ability to explode to the basket and finish with authority; Confidence in leaping ability allows him to play above the rim, even through contact; Recorded a 42 inch vertical

Weaknesses:

  • Undersized: Doesn’t have ideal size for a SG at the next level; This will lead to tougher shots on offense; Defensively he may be limited to guarding PGs and smaller SGs
  • Decision making: Tends to settle for tougher shots at times; Forces unnecessary turnovers with over dribbling; Avoids the simple pass
  • Focus: Has tendencies of getting lost during plays; Will ball watch resulting in him losing who he’s guarding; Has to show better court awareness
