NCAA Preseason top 25 countdown: #25 Tennessee Volunteers

2016 record: 9-4 (4-4 in conference)

Pass yards per game: 238.5

Rush yards per game: 205.2

Points scored per game: 36.4

Points allowed per game: 29.3

2016 was a good year for the Volunteers, they averaged over 200 yards rushing per game behind 4 different players. Each player amassed at least 450 yards on the ground. Of the 4 only running backs Jalen Hurd and John Kelly remain with the team.

Despite the 4-4 conference record Tennessee did have 2 big in conference wins. A 38-28 win over the Florida Gators and a 34-31 win the following week in Georgia. Both rematches this upcoming season will be must see t.v.

Tennessee Coach Butch Jones will have to start life without QB Josh Dobbs and RB Alvin Kamara who are now in the NFL. If that life is gonna be a good one Jones has to get his defense in order. This is a defense that also lost a star to the NFL in DE Derek Barnett. The Vols gave up almost 30 ppg last year and that’s just unacceptable. Safety Evan Berry who is the younger brother of Chiefs star Eric Berry will have to step into a huge leadership role if they plan on competing in the tough SEC.
