2016 SEASON RECAP
The San Francisco 49ers had a year to forget in 2016. The team dealt with the failure of the Chip Kelly experiment 2.0, the back and forth at QB between Kaepernick and Gabbert and not to mention the country wide coverage of Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protest. RB Carlos Hyde ran for 988 yards and 9 total TDs.
WR Jeremy Kerley led the team in receiving with only 667 yards. The offense didn’t produce points and the defense didnt stop many teams. Other than the season sweep of the division rival LA Rams they went 0-14 with all 14 teams scoring at least 23 points.
2017 SEASON PREVIEW
New Coach Kyle Shannahan brings his offense to the bay area and we should see instant improvement. A veteran QB in Brian Hoyer paired with a top flight NFL RB in Carlos Hyde should stabilize the shaky 49ers organization. New wideouts Pierre Garçon and Marquise Goodwin gives Shannahan soild NFL receivers. Add in returning playmaker Bruce Ellington and the 49ers will much more competitive.
NaVarro Bowman, Eric Reid and Arik Armstead are still in San Francisco so the chances of the defense at least being average is possible. Improvement will happen but not enough to contend in the NFC West.
