NCAA Preseason top 25 countdown: #9 Michigan Wolverines

2016 record: 10-3 (7-2 in conference)

Pass yards per game: 212.0

Rush yards per game: 212.9

Points scored per game: 40.3

Points allowed per game: 12.5

The Wolverines possessed one of college footballs top defensive units in 2016. The defense allowed under 13 ppg while the offense averaged over 40 ppg. There’s not to many teams that can state claim to a resume like that. However with a great defense like that, they were bound to lose multiple players to the NFL. It will be tough to replace guys the caliber of a Jabrill Peppers and Taco Charlton among others.

Jim Harbaugh will have a QB Battle between last years starter Wilson Speight and Brandon Peters. This season will have to be Harbaughs best coaching job if he hopes to make it into the college football playoffs. They have a tough schedule starting with Florida and ending with Ohio State. Add the fact of only 5 returning starters and it may be a rough go at it for the boys in Ann Arbor.
