Penn State had a weird year in 2016, early losses Pitt and Michigan then huge wins over Ohio state and Wisconsin made them one of the true bubble teams for the college football playoffs. The ultimately didn’t get in but the team showed that a rough start (2-2 to start the year) doesn’t have to define your season (ended the year with a 9-1 record over their final 10 games).
QB Trace McSorley really came on as the year progressed (3,614 yards and 36 total TDs) and made this Nittany Lions team viable. RB Saquon Barkley fell just 4 yards shy of 1,500 rushing yards, he also accounted for 22 total TDs. The loss of WR Chris Godwin (59 rec 982 yards and 11 TDs) could hurt them in 2017 but this team has what it takes to make a run in the Big Ten and in the playoffs.
