2017 NFL Preseason Outlooks: INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

2017 NFL Preseason Outlooks: INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

2016 record: 8-8 (3-3 in division)

KEY ADDITIONS: DT Johnathan Hankins, OLB Jabaal Sheard, OLB Barkevious Mingo, WR Kamar Aiken, (R) CB Quincy Wilson

KEY DEPARTURES: LB D’Qwell Jackson, DT Arthur Jones, TE Dwayne Allen

Andrew Luck (4,240 yards and 31 TDs passing in 2016) and the Indianapolis Colts ended 2016 with a 8-8 record. Luck dealt with a lingering shoulder injury throughout the season and that could have contributed to his erratic passing last year. The offensive line also was ab issue in indy because when Luck was in the game, he was running for his life.

The Defense wasn’t great either, the team gave up at least 30 points in 4 of their 8 loses. Indy fell to 3rd in the AFC South as the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans showed that they are ready to win now. WR T.Y. Hilton had another Pro Bowl season. He racked up great numbers last year ( 91 rec 1,448 yards 6 TDs ) but with all his efforts it wasnt enough to help the Colts secure a playoff spot.

The Colts are coming into 2017 with Andrew Luck coming off shoulder surgery and a bunch of new faces. The team is trying to bolster that defense so it can get back into contention for a division title. The addition of Jabaal Sheard and Barkevious Mingo will make the pass rush more formidable, add DT Johnathan Hankins and their defensive line as a whole should be greatly improved.

The Colts 2017 schedule isn’t hard on paper but they do have a stretch from week 6 – week 13 where they play 5 divisional games with showdowns against the Steelers and Bengals sandwiched in. If they want to get back in the playoffs it will take them winning divisional games. Thats the fastest way to a division title.
