2017 NFL Preseason Outlooks: TENNESSEE TITANS

2017 NFL Preseason Outlooks: TENNESSEE TITANS

2016 record: 9-7 (2-4 in division)

KEY ADDITIONS: (R) WR Corey Davis, (R) CB Adoree’ Jackson, WR Eric Decker

KEY DEPARTURES: CB Jason McCourty, WR Kendall Wright, OG Chance Warmack

The Titans ended the 2016 season with the same record as division champs Houston (9-7) the difference was the Titans were 2-4 in the division while Houston was 5-1. The division title came down to taking care of business against known opponents and Tennessee didn’t do that.  With that aside, the Titans exotic smash mouth offense as they call it gave teams fits. DeMarco Murray, Derrick Henry and QB Marcus Mariota combined for 2,126 rushing yards and 16 TDs on the ground.

A broken fibula in week 16 ended Mariota’s season early while the team was still fighting for the division title. The team lost that game to Jacksonville, that loss gave the division to the Texans. Even thought the season ended on a sour note its obvious that this team’s arrow is pointing up as others in the division seem to be pointing in the opposite direction

Mariota was a full participant in OTA’s and with the addition of a super bowl winning WR in Eric Decker the team looks poised to finally take the AFC South. Tennessee already had weapons with the likes of Delaine Walker, DeMarco Murray and Rishard Matthews but rookie WR Corey Davis will give them a vertical threat that not many teams can say they have.

Barring injury, it looks as if this is the year the the Music City will be headed to the playoffs. A lot like last year, no offense to Indy and QB Andrew Luck. It will cone down to the Titans offense versus the Texans defense. It should be a fun battle to watch in 2017.
