NCAA Preseason top 25 countdown: #3 Ohio State Buckeyes
3. OHIO STATE BUCKEYES
2016 record: 11-2 (8-1 in conference)
Pass yards per game: 213.9
Rush yards per game: 245.2
Points scored per game: 39.4
Points allowed per game: 14.2
The 2016 Ohio State Buckeyes once again fell short of their goal for a national championship but the way they fell has to leave a sour taste in the mouth of Urban Meyer and his program. A 31-0 drubbing by eventually champs Clemson in the CFP semifinal sends them back to the drawing boards. The loss of all around weapon Curtis Samuel will take some getting accustomed to.
The return of QB J.T. Barrett is a huge plus. Add him to the group of talented recruits they have coming in like RB Demario McCall and this offense looks to be ready for another playoff run.
The defense only surrendered 14.2 ppg in 2016, they will need another inspired effort in 2017 to make up for any mistakes and or growing pains that the young offense may encounter.
