SNF: DALLAS COWBOYS vs NEW YORK GIANTS
DALLAS COWBOYS vs NEW YORK GIANTS
By: Robert L. Porter Jr.
The 2017 Sunday night football schedule kicks off with a familiar match up. Sophomores Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys play host to Eli Manning and the New York Giants without All-pro wide out Odell Beckham Jr.
After both teams punted on their first possession, the Cowboys 2nd drive looked promising but stalled and they settled for a 21 yard Dan Bailey field goal giving them a 3-0 lead. The first quarter say alot of Demarcus Lawrence chasing Eli Manning around the backfield as the Giants look to have the same O-line problems they had in 2016. The first quarter came to an end with Dallas in the red zone knocking on the door again.
A Penalty and a sack derailed the Cowboys 2nd red zone trip and another Dan Bailey kick was the result. This time from 48 yards out, 6-0 Dallas. A little later in the quarter Jason Witten and Dak Prescott hooked up for a 12 yard TD to make it 13-0 Dallas. A 3rd Bailey field goal took us to the half of an uneventful game with the score Dallas 16 – Giants 0.
The Giants opened the 2nd half with by far their best drive of this game but was ultimately held to a short field goal that cut the deficit to 13. That Giants drive ate up just under 10 minutes (9:40 to be exact) and took 16 plays. A Cowboys punt and we’re headed to the 4th quarter with Dallas still leading 16-3.
An Eli Manning interception to Anthony Brown basically closed this game out. The 4th quarter consisted of stalled drives and punts as the Cowboys seemed content with running the clock out and sending the Giants back to the Big Apple with an 0-1 record. Dan Bailey made his 4th field goal from 36 yards out to make it 19-3 and put this one in the books.
In this game Jason Witten passed Hall of Famer Michael Irvin as the Dallas Cowboys all-time leader in receiving yards. Aside from that, Sean Lee and Jaylon Smith have the look of a great Linebacking tandem. They were all over the field as was DE Demarcus Lawrence who had 2 of the Cowboys 3 sacks.
