TNF: CINCINNATI BENGALS vs HOUSTON TEXANS
CINCINNATI BENGALS vs HOUSTON TEXANS
By: Robert L. Porter Jr.
This weeks Thursday night game is between two teams that were dismantled in week 1. Andy Dalton had 5 turnovers and couldn’t muster any points against the Ravens. The Texans got beat up by the Jaguars and made the quick switch from Tom Savage to rookie DeShaun Watson at QB. A.J. Green and DeAndre Hopkins are two of the NFL’s best wide outs and their teams will need them to show up tonight.
Watson and the Texans went 3 and out on the games initial drive, after a good return by Adam Jones the Bengals weren’t able to get anything going either. In the first NFL game for speedy WR John Ross, his first touch was an end around that he fumbled and set up the Texans with a scoring opportunity but the drive stalled and Houston settled for a field goal making it 3-0. On the first play of the following drive Dalton went up top to A.j. Green for 50 yards putting them in the red zone as the first quarter comes to an end. Texans lead 3-0 but Cincinnati is knocking on the door.
After a couple negative plays kicker Randy Bullock boots a field goal to tie the game at 3 and give the Bengals their first points of the 2017 season. The defenses owned this half up until QB DeShaun Watson broke contain and scampered 49 yards for a Texans TD Making it 10-3 Houston with 50 second remaining before half time. 2 big plays by Andy Dalton set Cincy up at the 11 yard line with 16 seconds to go. They couldn’t punch it in and settle for another field goal. They go into the half with the score Texans 10 – Bengals 6.
To start the 2nd half the Bengals put together a soild drive but failed to punch it in. What looked to be a Tyler Eifert TD was called back for illegal touching, he stepped out of bounds and was the first to touch the ball. Another Bullock field goal makes it 10-9 Texans. Nothing much happened in the quarter after the field goal. uneventful quarter of a fairly uneventful game as we head to the 4th.
The 4th quarter was more of the same as neither team found ways to extend drives. A final Houston field goal makes it 13-9. A game that never really gained any legs, both teams totaled 16 punts. The Bengals fall to 0-2 and are still looking for their first Touchdown of the 2017 season. Congratulations to DeShaun Watson for getting his first career victory and making the deciding play to get that victory. Also, congratulations to the city of Houston for being able to see their team bring them a win after all they’ve been through recently but this wasn’t a good game and I’m glad its finally over.
