We have two teams that had lofty expectations when this year began facing off on Sunday night football. Whether its injuries or just inconsistent play, Miami nor Oakland have lived up to their preseason hype. Oakland gets suspended RB Marshawn Lynch back tonight just as Miami gets QB Jay Cutler and WR Devante Parker back from injury.

Oakland receives the opening kick, 2 plays to Lynch put them in 3rd and 9 but Derek Carr finds TE Jared Cook on a 35 yard pass taking them into Dolphins territory. The next 3 plays were basically the same, 2 Lynch plays then a pass to Cook for the 1st down but this time it was for 14 yards. The Raiders put together a nice drive that burned 7:29 off the clock but ended with a Giogrio Tavecchio 36 yard field goal making it 3-0 Oakland. On Miami’s first drive, Cutler looked sharp on a few passes but the running game minus Jay Ajayi still looks to be in shambles and they are forced to punt after penalties moved them in the wrong direction. The Raiders 2nd drive starts with a 12 yard pass to Michael Crabtree then nothing much after that. Another Amari Cooper drop brings Marquette King on for the punt. After two Dolphin plays that picked up 9 yards we come to the end of the first quarter with Miami in a 3rd & 1 trailing 3-0.

Damien William’s picks up the first down to start quarter number 2. After a few touches for Kenyan Drake, Miami is able to take the lead on a short Cutler pass the Williams. The extra point is no good so the Dolphins lead 6-3. A surprise onside kick gives Miami the ball right back near midfield. Cutler found TE Julius Thomas 2 times to put Miami in scoring position but a Kenyan Drake fumble gives the ball back to the Raiders. Carr to Cook is how the possession starts, more Raiders penalties moved them the wrong way but some precision passing by Carr and a nice Dwayne Washington run finds them on Miami’s side of the field. On the first play in Dolphins territory, speedster Johnny Hilton gets behind the defense  and Derek Carr finds him for a 44 yard TD giving Oakland the lead again, 10-6. As we hit the 2 minute warning Cutler has started this game 13 for 13 with his Dolphins looking for points before he hit half time. Inside 2 minutes Miami utilized the RBs in the passing game as Williams and Drake get Cody Parley in range for a 49 yard kick to make it 10-9 Oakland. With 32 seconds remaining, Carr finds Cooper on a crossing route to get them near midfield then another pass to Cook gives Tavecchio a shot from 53 yards with 1 second until the intermission. Its good as we hit the half with Oakland leading 13-9.

Miami gets the ball to start the 3rd quarter and more penalties derail the drive before they get a chance to get it going as they are forced to punt rather quickly. Oakland gets ball and just flies down the field on a drive that is capped off by a Marshawn Lynch 22 yard TD run making the score 20-9 Raiders. Miami’s next possession is kicked off with a 42 yard Kenyan Drake run that has them in the red zone almost immediately and a Cutler to Landry 6 yard pass caps the 75 yard drive with a TD making the score 20-16. Oakland is unable to muster a first down on their next drive and King re-enters the game to kick it back to Adam Gase’s bunch. The offenses has seemed to cool down as another Dolphins punt is the result of the drive. Just as I say That Derek Carr and his guys have moved into Into Dolphins territory as the 3rd quarter concludes and he head to the 4th.

The 4th begins with the Raiders driving as Dwayne Washington and Marshawn Lynch put together a good set of runs but the drive would end up in a 3rd & 14, were Carr is sacked and fumbles. One of the Raiders O-lineman recovers it and starts to run until he too is hit and fumbles, Miami recovers and takes over here. A long Damien Williams Catch and run is regated by a Holding call on Jarvis Landry. After the penalty the punt team would be back on the field. Midway through the 4th we have Oakland with the ball looking to chew some clock and if possible get more points to put this one out of reach. Carr completes a couple passes on their drive, the biggest play was a 44 yard pass to Seth Roberts that had a personal foul tacked on. The very next play was a pass interference that put Oakland at the 3 yard line. Lynch would proceed to punch it in to give the Raiders a 27-16 lead with 4:37 left to play.

Cutler comes out slinging on the next drive but a bad snap puts them in a 3rd & long at the Raiders 38 yard line. A low pass to Kenny Stills makes it 4th down and they go for it. A holding call makes it 4th & 19 and they fail to pick it up. Oakland takes over near midfield with under 3 minutes to play. 2 Lynch runs took us just ahead of the 2 minute warning then a deep shot by Carr is picked off by Rashad Jones giving Miami another shot to cut into the deficit. Some good sideline passing and a roughing the passer call gets Cutler and his team inside the 20 in the blink of an eye. With 1:32 remaining he finds Julius Thomas from 15 yards out for the TD, the 2pt attempt was successful making it 27-24 Raiders. Miami will need to recover the onside kick because they are out of timeouts. Oakland’s Amari Cooper recovers the kick and a few kneel downs gives them the victory.
