The NFC North is on display in this Monday night football match up. The Green bay Packers minus Aaron Rodgers host the Detroit Lions. These teams have two of the better receiver tandems In the league. Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams for the Packers and Golden Tate and Marvin Jones Jr. for Detroit. If Brett Hundley can get the ball to Nelson and Adams we may have a shootout on our hands.

Hundley and the Packers get the ball first and he looked good to start the game. He showed his mobility and made some good short throws to keep the offense on schedule but the drive would stall just outside of the Lions 20 yard line. The Mason Crosby field goal attempt is blocked by A’Shawn Robinson. The Lions possession looked to be over quickly with a 3 & out but a personal foul on Mike Daniels kept the drive alive. Stafford and his offense got a little rhythm after that, Ameer Abdullah ran well and the drive is capped by a 25 yard TD pass to Marvin Jones to make it 7-0 Lions. The Packers 2nd drive consisted of 2 completed passes for negative yards and a 12 yard Hundley run on 3rd & 16. As the fast moving first quarter comes to a close the Packers are set to punt the ball to Jim Caldwell’s offense.

After the punt, two Abdullah runs net 0 yards but on 3rd & 10 Stafford found Jones again, this time for 16 yards and a first down. Another Packers 3rd down penalty gives Detroit a chance for points as Clay Matthews jumped offsides giving Matt Prater a shot at a 55 yarder. He would hit the cross bar and miss so the Matthews mishap didn’t cost his team. Green bay gets the ball at the 45 yard line but with that great field position can only muster 1 yard and are forced to punt. Stafford and his offense moves down the field with ease as Golden Tate hauled in 3 passes on the drive that was capped off by Ameer Abdullah from 4 yards out to make it 14-0 Lions. Mike McCarthy’s offense takes the field with just about 3 minutes until half time, two passes and a Ty Montgomery run gets a first down and takes us to the 2 minute warning. They come out in the no huddle and put together a good string of plays but the precision needed near the end zone just wasn’t there as they end up taking a 35 yard Crosby field goal to make it 14-3 at halftime.

Detroit receives the 2nd half kickoff and just like the first half, they moved down the field rather easily but 2 inaccurate Stafford passes forces them to settle for a Prater field goal making it 17-3 Lions. The Packers seemed to have taken the training wheels off as Hundley throws on every play of the drive. The drive went only 5 plays as Green bay turned it over on downs in their own territory. Detroit comes out conservative with a short field in front of them, Abdullah runs and a pass to T.J. Jones is how the drive starts then a fumble by Abdullah gives Hundley another possession. A deep incompletion in the direction of Jordy Nelson is how the possession starts and ends as they go 3 & out and punt it back to Detroit. Marvin Jones is quickly becoming a legitimate number 1 wide out as Stafford continues to find him on a regular basis. As the quarter winds down to the end they are inside the 5 yard line with a first and goal when the final quarter starts. Green bay still trails 17-3 for the time being.

Abdullah opens the quarter with a fumble that was recovered by one of Detroit’s offensive linemen. The next play is a Theo Riddick run that was also stopped short of the end zone. Play number 3 was a sneak by Stafford that also was stopped so in comes Prater for a kick from the 1 yard line. Its up and good and the score is now 20-3 Lions. In desperation mode Hundley comes out throwing, he hit Randall Cobb on a slant for 46 yards to take his team into Lions territory. A Hundley pass to Davante Adams puts them inside the 10 then the drive would end with a QB sneak by Hundley from 1 yard out cutting the deficit to 10 points. After a Stafford incompletion, they call a screen pass to Riddick that went for 63 yards and set Detroit up at the 12 yard line. After a 1 yard Riddick run, Stafford finds Marvin Jones for his 2nd TD of the contest. The score is now 27-10 Lions. Detroit starts to pound the rock trying to run the clock out and end their 3 game losing streak. The Lions get down inside the 5 and their drive would be finished by Prater to make it 30-10. Hundley leads a late drive to cut the score to 30-17 on a TD run by Jamaal Williams.
