Wild Card Weekend: #3 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS vs #6 BUFFALO BILLS
NFL WILD CARD WEEKEND MATCH UP
#3 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS vs #6 BUFFALO BILLS
(Sunday January 7th, 2018 1:05 pm EST CBS)
This matchup will feature two teams that haven’t seen a playoff appearance in at least 10 years. Jaguars last appearance was in 2007 and Bills last appeared in 1999. The Jaguars relied heavily on the run this season after drafting Leonard Fournette with the 4th pick in the 2017 NFL draft. Fournette became the first Jaguars rookie RB to reach 1,000 yards rushing since Fred Taylor in 1998. The run heavy approach has allowed Blake Bortles to play with a little less pressure as he saw his passing attempts decrease by 100 from last year but he saw an increase in passer rating up from 78.8 in 2016 to 84.7 this year. The Jaguars will need Bortles to keep his turnovers to a minimum.
The Buffalo Bills snuck into the playoffs with a win at Miami but received much needed help from a Bengals team that beat the Ravens, which ultimately knocked them out of the playoffs.
The Bills had a solid season finishing 9-7. They had some season stretches that were more impressive than others. They also made a midseason trade that brought Kelvin Benjamin in, however, he only recorded 1 TD on 16 receptions for 217 yards. Tyrod Taylor was benched at one point and also dealt with some injuries, in what turned out to be a shaky year. Even with all their consistencies, the Bills have still found ways to win games. They were able to ride their defense to most of their wins but the offense will have to make plays if they expect to have a chance on Sunday.
The Jaguars finished the year with a 6-2 home record and flexed one of the more stout defenses by only allowing 16.8 points per game. They also had the most rushing attempts on the season so we should expect to see a lot of Leonard Fournette in this matchup. Buffalo may be without their star offensive player in Shady McCoy which only helps to favor the Jaguars even more.
Jacksonville will look to put this game away early with quick scores then go straight to the ground and pound.
