With week 1 in the books hopefully you used our insight article last week and you’re 1-0 in your Fantasy League. In this piece we will recap some of the better and more surprising performances of the NFL’s opening week and also take a look ahead to week 2.

Its only right that we start with Running back James Conner (34.20 PPR points) who took his opportunity to start for the Pittsburgh Steelers and turned it into a huge fantasy day. With the LeVeon Bell holdout still going on Conner was the bellcow against the Cleveland Browns and the fantasy owners that were smart enough to have Conner in their lineup got a treat. A fumble was his only blemish but here’s his game totals.

31 carries 135 rushing yards 2 TDs

6 targets 5 catches 57 receiving yards

In a game that saw 88 total points scored, the Saints and Buccaneers put on an aerial display for the ages. Ryan Fitzpatrick (52.28 PPR points) and Drew Brees (39.56 PPR points) combined for 8 total touchdowns. Brees threw 3 while Fitzpatrick threw 4 and add 1 on the ground. The 2 Quarterbacks also combined for 856 passing yards. In That same game, Michael Thomas (40.00 PPR points) hauled in 16 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown while Mike Evans (27.70 PPR points) not to be out done snagged 7 catches for 147 yards and a score.

This game was a defensive coordinators nightmare but a fantasy owners dream. While not many people had Fitzpatrick in their lineup it was quite a sight to see on a Sunday afternoon.

Tyreek Hill (44.30 PPR points) and Patrick Mahomes (36.34 PPR points) led the Chiefs over the Chargers. Hill was simply unstoppable, he pulled in 7 catches for 169 and 2 TDs while also adding a 91 yard punt return for another score on his first touch of the season. In a losing effort, Philip Rivers (36.96 PPR points) passed for 424 yards and 3 scores while Keenan Allen (24.80 PPR points) went for 8 rec 108 yards and 1 TD. Melvin Gordon (27.60 PPR points) added 24 touches (9 catches, 15 carries) for 166 yards.

These weren’t the only impressive fantasy outputs of the week but I feel like you get the point so let’s take a look at what will happen in week 2.

Coming off week 1 loses I expect the Falcons, Saints and Chargers to put up huge offensive numbers (Saints and Chargers did in week 1 also) so if you have any offensive player from these teams on your roster start them. Also guys like Ezekiel Elliott, David Johnson, Kareem Hunt and DeAndre Hopkins will get back to scoring like we have all come accustomed to seeing. Expect to see more of the same from Emmanuel Sanders who looks to be in the same role Stefon Diggs occupied for Case Keenum in Minnesota last year. Last but not least, look for a good game from the Chicago Bears Special teams/defense against the Seahawks on Monday night.

Every week I will give 1 quarterback, running back and wide receiver that I expect to have a breakout game. A lot of the well known point producers won’t be on this list. I’m going for the unsung guy that can sneak into your lineup and help you win your match up.

QB – Alex Smith – Redskins vs Colts

RB – Tevin Coleman – Falcons vs Panthers

WR – Cole Beasley – Cowboys vs Giants

Stop by next week to see how the breakout candidates performed in their respective games. I wish you all good luck in week 2 and go get these wins.

(All fantasy point totals are based on the scoring system of my league of record)

Thanks for allowing me to give you my fantasy 2 cents.
