And here we are, one quarter of the NFL season is in the books and the leagues elite are starting to show themselves in the actual league and in your fantasy league.
The breakout game by Bears 2nd year QB Mitch Trubisky (57.46 PPR points) was something to see. He threw for 354 yards with 6 TDs but he was also able to add 53 yards rushing on 3 carries. Mitch led his team to a 48 – 10 beat down of the previously red hot Tampa bay Buccaneers. Another Quarterback that put up a 40 burger in a win for his team was the Raiders Derek Carr (41.58 PPR points). His team needed overtime to edge the Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield in his first start by a score of 45 – 42.
Dak Prescott (22.40 PPR points) and Ezekiel Elliott (36.00 PPR points) looked to be in their 2016 form as they combined for 497 yards in a 26 – 24 come from behind victory against the Lions. Speaking of Elliott, there were a couple other note worthy running back performances in week 4. Alvin Kamara (41.10 PPR points), Melvin Gordon (30.90 PPR points), James White (31.20 PPR points), Tarik Cohen (30.40 PPR points), Mike Davis (28.40 PPR points) and Nyheim Hines (28.30 PPR points).
Ok so we’ve stalled long enough, lets take a look at the Thursday night shoot out between the Rams and the Vikings. Quarterbacks Jared Goff (51.30 PPR points) and Kirk Cousins (39.68 PPR points) lit up the score boards and each others defenses to the tune of a 38 – 31 final score. Goff had 465 passing yards and 5 TDs while Cousins tossed for 422 yards and 3 TDs. With numbers like that, its obvious that there were other great performances to speak of. Cooper Kupp (39.20 PPR points), Brandin Cooks (25.60 PPR points), Todd Gurley (25.60 PPR points) and Robert Woods (21.10 PPR points) all had over 20 fantasy points with Kupp pacing the team with his 9 receptions 162 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. The Vikings weren’t to shabby with Adam Thelein (27.50 PPR points) and Stefon Diggs (23.30 PPR points) also scoring over 20 each.
Monday Night was a cooling off game for Patrick Mahomes (26.85 PPR points) but a coming out party for last years leading rusher Kareem Hunt (26.50 PPR points) who led the Chiefs to a 27 – 23 comeback win. Hunt carried the ball 19 times for 121 yards and a touchdown, he also added 3 catches for 54 yards. It was his first 100 yard rushing game this season.
WEEK 4 BREAKOUT CANDIDATES REVIEW
QB – Eli Manning – 17.70 points
RB – Kenyan Drake – 3.60 points
WR – Michael Crabtree – 5.90 points
This was a horrible week for us. Eli Manning had 31 completions but could only muster 255 yards with 1 TD. The Miami Dolphins non use of Kenyan Drake is mind blowing but the utter destruction of them by the Patriots wasn’t. Michael Crabtree had a few drops and miscues with Joe Flacco that could’ve resulted in a huge game for him but we’re not here for near misses. John Brown is definitely the wide out to have from that team moving forward. We must be better and we will be better as we head into the 2nd quarter of the season.
WEEK 5 BREAKOUT CANDIDATES
QB – Derek Carr – @ Chargers
RB – T.J. Yeldon – @ Chiefs
WR – Julian Edelman – vs Colts
There’s no way we could be any worse that last week but here’s our week 5 breakout candidates. Dont forget to check in next week as see how they did in their respective match ups.
